FOCUS AREA · CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION & ADAPTATION
The communities least responsible for climate change feel it first.
Shorter rains, longer dry spells and harsher floods are already reshaping life in Northern Ghana. ReliefEcho helps communities cut their emissions and adapt to what's already here — so a changing climate doesn't undo everything else we build together.
THE CHALLENGE
A changing climate multiplies every other risk
Climate change rarely arrives as a single event. It shows up as a borehole that runs dry earlier each year, a planting season that no longer matches the rains, a flood that takes out a school block, and firewood collection that pushes deeper into thinning woodland.
For households already living close to the margin, each of these compounds the others. Adaptation isn't a separate programme for us — it's what keeps our water, farming, education and relief work standing over the long term.
OUR APPROACH
What a ReliefEcho climate programme delivers
We work on both sides of the challenge at once — reducing what communities emit, and strengthening what they can withstand.
Renewable Energy Access
Solar power and clean cookstoves that cut reliance on firewood and charcoal — improving household health and easing pressure on woodland.
Climate-Smart Agriculture
Drought-tolerant crops, water-efficient methods and conservation practices that hold yields steady as rainfall grows less predictable.
Habitat & Landscape Restoration
Rehabilitating degraded land, woodland and wetlands to restore biodiversity, stabilise soils and protect the water sources communities depend on.
Disaster Preparedness
Community early-warning planning and flood preparedness that reduce loss of life and property before a crisis hits.
Collaborative Resource Governance
Bringing communities, traditional authorities and local government together to manage shared land and water fairly and sustainably.
Behaviour Change for Sustainability
Practical campaigns — tree planting, fuel-efficient cooking, waste reduction — that turn awareness into everyday habit.
